Smyrna Police Department investigators have arrested a Smyrna Middle School student after he posted a threat to the school online. This morning, officers were made aware of a tikTok video alluding to a shooting at the Smyrna Middle School. The student who posted this video was identified and immediately detained by SPD and Smyrna School District administration this morning. The student, who is 13 years old and a Dover, DE resident, was charged with one count of Terroristic Threatening-False statement that intends to cause serious inconvenience. He was arraigned in Family Court and released on a $500 unsecured bond with mandatory pre-trial services. The SPD has deemed his threat to not be credible, and it was related to the ongoing national trend of similar threats being shared nationwide. We immediately alerted Smyrna School District officials, and they assisted us in our investigation and were instrumental in identifying the suspect.
