Smyrna Police arrest man on weapons charges after foot chase


On Friday 11/25/22 at approximately 1130 a.m., officers were called to the area of S Delaware St and W Frazier St for a report of a man walking around waving a firearm and possibly recording himself. Smyrna Police arrived to the area and located a male matching the description. Upon seeing Smyrna Police Officers, the male later identified as Shyeme Mills, 18 of Mullins, SC fled on foot through several residential yards. Smyrna Police were able to catch him blocks later and take him into custody. Upon investigation it was found that Mr. Mills discarded an illegal firearm into a back yard on S School Ln. Mr. Mills was transported to Smyrna PD where he was arraigned in JP #2 on the following charges:

Possession of a deadly weapon by a person under 21

Carrying a concealed deadly weapon

Possession of a weapon in a safe school zone

Tampering with physical evidence

Resisting arrest

Criminal Trespassing

Mr. Mills was committed to SCI in default of $13,600 cash bond.
